Things To Do Tenterfield is an attractive town with many historic buildings dating back to the mid-19th century situated at the northern end of the New England Tablelands. A town of four seasons, Tenterfield has a mild spring with a moderate alpine summer climate followed by a glorious autumn when the many deciduous trees display their autumn colours while winter combines warm sunny days with clear crisp nights.

Tenterfield is known as "The Birthplace of Our Nation" where Sir Henry Parkes delivered his famous Federation Speech in the Tenterfield School of Arts on 24th October 1889. This Speech ultimately led to the Federation of all Australian States on January 1st 1901.

It is also surrounded by national parks and vineyards in what is known as the granite belt region. Visit any of the stunning national parks in the area including Girraween National Park in the north or Gibraltar Range and Washpool National Park in the south. Just a few minutes drive east of Tenterfield on the Bruxner Highway to Lismore is "Kurrajong Downs " a vineyard with cellar door wine sales and a restaurant that can cater for over 100 people or travel further afield to other granite belt wineries where you can sample fine food and wine of the local area.

If you enjoy golf, you'll love the Tenterfield Golf Course set high in the ranges west of Byron Bay which provides a stunning backdrop to the well kept greens. Take a historic drive on Mt Lindesay Road to discover Thunderbolt's hideout and the ruins of the "Brisbane Line", which was Australia's second line of defence in case of an invasion from the north in World War II.
