About Us Facilities

Come stay at The Lodge on Elizabeth and experience the grace and grandeur of this stately Georgian Mansion. The Lodge provides elegant heritage accommodation within easy walking distance to Hobart's CBD and Elizabeth street mall. Every room has its own ensuite with the more luxurious rooms featuring spas, four-poster, half-tester or antique beds. Sit in the drawing room and enjoy complimentary port or relax in our private courtyard garden. This Golden Chain accommodation provides beautifully decorated rooms with antique furnishings and decor. All rooms have heating, electric blankets, fans, direct dial telephones, bar fridges, colour TV and tea and coffee facilities. Broadband and wireless internet access is available. All tariffs include a hearty continental buffet breakfast. Our rooms are serviced daily and there is a guest laundry and dry cleaning service available. We have a non-smoking policy in guest rooms and inside public areas. There is limited off street parking or free parking permit can be supplied.
Previously the home of many well known Tasmanians including one premier, The Lodge on Elizabeth in Hobart was built by convicts in 1829 and is listed by the National Trust. We are conveniently situated near the start of the North Hobart gourmet restaurant strip with its wide variety of cuisine. There are many tourist attractions within close proximity for both the adventurous and those looking for something a little more tranquil.

Things to see and do in Hobart and surrounds:
One can wander the docklands or the city, take a harbour cruise on the Derwent River or book a memorable Bruny or Tasman island cruise. Drive to the summit of Mt Nelson or Mt Wellington for spectacular views of the coast and hinterland or head south to the scenic beauty of the Huon Valley with it's art and craft, local farm and sea produce, apple blossoms and vineyards.

Also visit the following: Cadbury Factory - Mt Wellington - Port Arthur - Salamanca Markets - Tahune Airwalk - Richmond - Russell Falls - Wrest Point Casino - Cascade Brewery - Antique shops and museums or the new MONA arts centre.

Finding Us
The Lodge on Elizabeth is centrally located in Hobart, in southeastern Tasmania. Bass Strait is the sea-road to Tasmania. The route is serviced by two superfast ships, Spirit of Tasmania I and II which offer an overnight service in both directions between Melbourne and Devonport in the north, seven days a week. For those travelling by air, Qantaslink, Virgin, Jetstar and Regional Express operate frequent services to Tasmania.

Things To Do Bellerive Oval: 10 minutes
MONA ( Museum of Old and New Art )
This world acclaimed museum and art gallery is Hobart,s latest attraction and is a 'must see'.
You can either drive (15 mins) or catch the Mona ferry from Hobart's wharf enjoy a 40 min cruise each way on the picturesque Derwent River.

Salamanca Market: 10 minutes (or 20 minute walk)
Tasmania's most famous market is on every Saturday and is just 10 minutes drive from The Lodge on Elizabeth , The market starts at 8.30 am and finishes about 3pm.

Battery Point: 10 minutes
Battery Point is an old port and maritime village. Battery Point hosts a number of pretty buildings including the Arthur Circus Cottages and St. George's Anglican Church And other interesting things to see and do.

Old Hobart Town: 25 minutes
located in Richmond just 15 minutes from The Lodge on Elizabeth is a model of Hobart in 1820. Built from original plans, it is an accurate look at life in Tasmania's capital city during this era. This unique Historical Model Village is a result of three years full time work by John and Andrew Quick who are the owner operators. The model itself has been largely reconstructed from original plans of the era thus depicting Hobart as it was in the 1820's.

Richmond Bridge: 25 minutes
The sandstone arches of the Richmond Bridge, set against the hills of the Coal River Valley, have straddled Tasmania's Coal River since their completion in 1825. Built by convict labour in its picturesque setting and framing views of one of Richmond township's historic churches, the Richmond Bridge has long inspired artists, tourists and lovers of beautiful places almost since it was completed.

Cascade Brewery: 15 minutes
Come and visit us in Hobart for a brewery tour or relaxing drink and a bite to eat in the Cascade Visitor Centre. One-and-a-half hour tours are conducted by guides several times per day, 7 days a week. Tours include the chance to see some of Australia's best loved premium beers brewed in the historic brewery and a walk through the famous Woodstock gardens. Allow half an hour at the end of the tour for tastings, which are included in the tour price.

Wrest Point Casino: 15 minutes
Wrest Point has an absolute waterfront location on the River Derwent in Hobart It's Hobart's premier choice for holiday accommodation, dining and entertainment.

Tasmania Golf Club: 20 minutes
Scenic Tasmania Golf Club is Tasmania's premier course and was rated in Australia's top 50 courses in latest "Golf Digest" rankings.
Situated on a point, Tasmania is a picturesque course with river views from many holes. Undulating fairways, with second shots to contoured greens, provide a course capable of testing serious players while being enjoyable for the social player or beginner.

Bruny Island: 60 minutes
Bruny Island is a relaxing place for your next holiday to Tasmania. There really is something for everyone on Bruny Island with wildlife tours, beautiful beaches, boating adventures, culture and history, souvenirs, shops, cheese, wine, the South Bruny National Park and so much more.

Eaglehawk Neck: 60 minutes
is an uncommonly beautiful place. The isthmus is flanked by the calm waters of Norfolk Bay on one side and Pirates Bay opening onto the Tasman Sea on the other. The quiet village is the gateway to the many attractions of the Tasman Peninsula, including Port Arthur Historic Site, dramatic sea cliffs, white sandy beaches and some of the best surf in the State.

Port Arthur: 75 minutes
One of Australia's great tourism destinations. Every building, every feature of Port Arthur Historic Site has a story to tell. Created with convict labour, the impressive architecture, delightful gardens and chilling prison facilities survive today for you to explore.

Maria Island: 75 minutes
Maria Island is a special place with something for everyone - historic ruins, sweeping bays, rugged cliffs and mountains, and remarkable wildlife. Set just off the warm east coast, the island is easily accessed by ferry. Once on the island you will discover a place where there are no motor vehicles, no shops and no worries. Whether you're here for hours or days you can choose the kind of stay that suits you and let Maria work its spell on you.

Tahune Airwalk: 75 minutes
This beautiful reserve on the banks of the mighty Huon River is now the home of the popular Tahune Forest AirWalk, swinging bridges and visitor centre. Although this tourist development has changed the area, it is still a popular place to picnic in one of the many shelters or tables, while cooking lunch on a gas barbecue.
